Tofu Souvlaki Brochettes

My boyfriend and I (and Nougat) loved this souvlaki tofu brochette recipe! Very tasty, the perfect summer meal!

Maceration: 15 min (The longest, the best; I left marinated for 12 hrs)





  • 1 1/2 lb (675 g) firm tofu, cut into large cubes

  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) lemon juice

  • 30 ml (2 tablespoons) of vegetable oil

  • 2 cloves of garlic, chopped

  • 15 mL (1 tablespoon) dried oregano

  • 1 mL (1/4 teaspoon) chopped crushed flakes

  • 12 mini peppers or 1 large pepper seeded and cut into large cubes

  • 2 small red onions, quartered


  • 1 cup (250 mL) vegan sour cream (ex: Toffuti)

  • 1 clove of garlic, chopped

  • 20 ml (4 teaspoons) lemon juice

  • 4 Lebanese cucumbers, sliced thinly

  • 30 ml (2 tablespoons) of vegetable oil

  • 2.5 ml (1/2 teaspoon) dried oregano

  • 4 pita breads



  1. If your are using wood brochettes, soak them in some water for 15-30 minutes.

  2. Rinse the tofu.

  3. In a glass dish or large airtight bag, combine tofu, lemon juice, oil, garlic, oregano and chilli. Salt and pepper. Let macerate for 15 minutes.

  4. Oil the grill. Preheat the barbecue to high power.

  5. Put the tofu, peppers and onions on the brochettes. Keep the marinade.

  6. Cook the brochettes for 6 to 8 minutes, or until the tofu and vegetables are grilled, turning them over during cooking. Cook it slowly, don't put the BBQ on high. Reserve on a plate and brush with the reserved marinade.


  1. In a bowl, combine the sour cream, garlic and half of the lemon juice (10 ml / 2 teaspoons). Salt.

  2. In another bowl, mix the cucumbers with the oil, the remaining lemon juice and the oregano. Salt and pepper.

  3. Spread the pita breads with the sour cream mix, then add the tofu, the vegetables and the cucumbers.
